How to Build a Rose Tree Garden

Rose trees are a very special part of a garden. They need minimal care. Almost all species of roses and many hybrids can be grown as “rose trees”. The single most important requirement is plenty of sunlight and a minimum of four hours per day.

Some varieties of roses, however, do like a little less demand. These should be planted a couple of stone streets away from your tree-top garden. Rose trees like deep, rich loamy soil loaded with organic matter. They also need to be watered enough to keep the soil damp at all times which of course, is always a “Mistakes” as you never know how thorough you have to be.

Begin by planning out your garden so you can determine where you will plant the tree. Most plants fail to thrive where they have to compete with a tree or other type of surface for water. Rose trees are no exception. Always water early in the morning with warm water so that the rose tree’s roots can hold out the most amount of water before the sun is hot at the noon or night. About once a month, dig a hole about 12 inches deep and fill it with water. Remember not to add any fertilizer to the soil during this cycle as it will burn it in the heat of the day.

Once your tree is well established, it will need little assistance from you. You will have to maintain its shape by cutting off dead blossoms for the next season and pushing the plant up to the soil. Every three years, the tree will need pruning to trim it back and reduce its growth. Do it when the leaves have changed color in summer.

When planting rose trees, you need to help the plant get a large root base by making it into a long single stalk. Trim off the first three years after planting to a height of about eight feet. In the early years of its existence, keep the tree at a lower elevation so that its blooms will get enough “sun” for most of the day.

To install the tree, be certain that it will receive a high enough grade of soil. Next, build a 10-12 inch wide bottom walkway that starts two feet from the ground with a 4 foot wide ladder at its center. At its second point, add a stone to keep it out of the water drain.

It is advisable to create a low wall where you have planted the tree. Again, you have to be certain that it is high enough for the tree to reach once it is quite mature to avoid soil erosion. You have to apply a 4 to 6 foot layer of peat moss that will act as a mulch to retain the moistness of the soil. Your neighbors will be very impressed with such a lovely tree. An added bonus of having a rose tree is that it is very attractive in your front yard and if you have a good drainage system, it will not be an eyesore.

After planted, the rose tree will need to be pruning and fertilizer every two or three years. It will be beneficial for the tree to be planted on a sunny day after the first freeze. Be sure to water regularly. If you live in areas with a lot of snow in winter, you will be better off creating a winter sun lover. You must water the tree in the morning to make sure that it is not drying out and threatened when the ground gets thoroughly soaked during the night occurs.

It is best to plant rose trees at least 4 feet from a wall or house, and in an area where they receive at least six hours of sunlight each day. As your tree grows, you will need to keep it at a distance from the house as its roots become thick. Once you have it in place in the landscape you recommended, be sure to maintain its shape by trimming or reducing its growth.
